It is situated close to the entrance to Parc National des Volcano in northern Rwanda and set within a grove of trees with the rooms set around a large courtyard. On a clear day the views across to the volcanoes and surrounding area are spectacular. Set a little north of Kinigi, in a lovely setting very close to the main headquarters of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park – from where all the hikes to see the gorillas depart in the morning
Each of the hotel’s 43 rooms is simply appointed with en-suite facilities flush toilet and hot shower.
The rooms all look outwards into the Eucalyptus forest, pyrethrum farms and shambas beyond.  The Lodge is well constructed, with grass thatched roofs in traditional Rwandese style.
There is a spacious restaurant with a large bar and reception area overlooking the garden lawns and a nine-hole golf course. There is no electricity in Kinigi so the lodge operates a generator.
Dining
Food is based mainly on traditional recipes and served buffet style in the dining area. Picnic lunches can be provided for daytrips and there are huge breakfasts on offer to set you up for a morning hike.
Activities
Away from gorillas the Park is also home to seventy six mammal species, including a troop of habituated golden monkeys. Nature walks can be undertaken alongside a knowledgeable National Park’s guide; climbs of the volcanoes are also possible as well as visiting the tomb of Dian Fossey.
Of course there is Gorilla tracking as well as visits to Lake Kivu or the opportunity to take part in a number of community projects.
